26.2 Pit Crew

One of my friends did something I probably never will do... run 26.2 miles in less than 5 hours!  I can't believe it and am unbelievably proud of her!

A group of us went downtown to see her accomplish this feat of athleticism along with support Skip as he completed the half marathon.

Betsy's Marathon 017

Friday night I went with Betsy to pick up her race packet!!  I was excited; she was nervous... my excitedness (is that a word) finally rubbed off when she got her shirt.

Betsy's Marathon 026

Saturday (aka Diana's day of fun) ended with Diana and I making "Team Betsy" shirts as a surprise.  They actually turned out a lot better than I had hoped!!!

Betsy's Marathon 073

Don't mind the hair... it was late!

Marathon morning came really (really) early.  I can't really tell if Betsy is nervous or not?!?!???!!!

Nervous Betsy

Skip seemed to lighten the mood as he began his 13.1 mile run.  I do believe this is the best picture of Skip I've ever seen!!!

Betsy's Marathon 088

As they ran forward we (Kate, Diana, and I) got in our cars to drive to mile 5 (or 6).  It was a long walk to the car and we had to stop for a break!!

Kate and Katie tired

We made it to mile 5 and since we didn't know if we'd missed Skip and Betsy we started yelling for them.  "SKIP!  BETSY!  HAS ANYONE SEEN SKIP AND BETSY?!?!!!"  It's only funny when you realize there were 2,400 people running the marathon (doesn't count the half-marathon runners).  They finally came and Skip stripped half his cloths off in mid run (very talented) and kept going... on to the finish line!

Happy Betsy - mile 5

Skip mile 5

It was back to the car and a quick drive to the finish line... man, we're tired and we've driven the whole thing!  I missed Skip coming across the finish line, luckily Diana (our official photographer didn't)

Skip finishing

Apparently, beer has a lot of carbs; thus it's a great after race drink!  I would have thought gatorade or water...

two beers

Betsy's Marathon 099

He's still alive... don't worry!!  Actually, I don't think he was in as much pain as he looks.

It was back to the cars for a trip to mile 23 to see Betsy again!  Seriously... we are tired!!

Betsy's Marathon 102

At mile 23 she looked really tired... until she saw our cool shirts!!

Happy Betsy - mile 23

Seriously... she just ran 23 miles!!!

Betsy as she finishes

Skip decided to run with Betsy to the finish line... very sweet of him except it would have been nice for him to tell us.  After waiting for Skip for a little while we decided to leave him because we'd rather have him lost in the city than to miss Betsy finishing her first marathon.  We made it just in time!!

Betsy heading to the finish

Wow!

Betsy and Kate

I love this picture!

Betsy's Marathon 122

Team Betsy!!!

I still can't believe she's a marathon runner!  26.2 miles in 4 hours 49 minutes and 34 seconds... simply amazing!!!

Kids are Cute!!

Saturday we had an Easter cookout!  That's right, who wants the traditional ham when you can have hambugers and hotdogs!!  My family from MO came to my parents for the Easter festivities.  Mom hid eggs for the little cousin (age 6 and 3).  Apparently the Easter Bunny doesn't put money in eggs at their house because once they opened it them and found quarters that got really really excited yelling "MOMMA (they're from MO)!  There's money in these!!!"  My aunt responded quickly by saying "No wonder you never get money at home... the Easter Bunny is broke by then!"  Unfortunately the Easter Bunny forgot to put a quarter in one of the eggs... she heard about it!!!

another fabulous weekend!

Another road trip!

This time to Aurora, IL to visit Johny 5.  I almost didn't make it because I couldn't get out of the office.  Finally, I was able to get the call in number for the "big, quarterly" meeting.

After about 4 hours, one bag of funions, one set of wrong directions (whoops!) we arrived safetly at Johny 5's, just in time to eat dinner and get to the concert.  We went to a Shane and Shane, Shawn McDonald and Phil Wickum concert... simply amazing!!!  The next morning Jamie, Jenny and I woke up to the smell of french toast, eggs and pancakes cooking downstairs.  It was at that moment that we decided to move into J5's condo and he could stay with Brent!  After enjoying our amazing breakfast it was off to the park for some ultimate frisbee.  Once we wore ourselves out we headed to someone's apartment to watch American Gladiator... Do you remember that show?  It was the best display of atheltic sportsmenship ever.  Before long it was time for Battle of the Sexes.  We will defiently have to replicate this activity here.  The guys and girls split up and made lists of activities that the opposite sex had to complete.  Items on the girls list included: splitting logs, dunking a basketball, lighting a fire, licking a bald man's head, etc.  I think the girls were a little harder on the guys... they had to apply for a job at Victoria's Secret, wear their cloths backwards, have a tickle fight, stage a breakup in public (between two guys), and the best... get into a hot tub wearing a woman's swimsuit!  Once again we stayed up WAY to late (3:30 a.m.) talking and hanging out.  I was more than a little tired on the drive back... thanks to Jamie for actually driving the whole time!!
